Statement

The concepts of evolution and transformation form the ground of my research, both conceptually and formally. The ongoing investigation and documentation of the processes associated with the transformation of matter - plant fibres and natural dyes - represent for me the fundamental creative inspiration; this type of research drives me to undergo the unpredictability of results and to reflect on the relativity of time and space in which matter continuously transforms itself.

The book - as a medium and as a concept - is another significant element in my research. The technical experiments are formally enforced in strict geometries that break the flowing and organic forms, taking space on the dyed paper. The ritual seriality that characterizes the dyeing process appears in the structure and composition of the works; the surfaces I often imagine as book pages make room for nuances of colour and intangible, fleeting structures that I recombine until the right balance is achieved.

Virginia Lorenzetti (b. 1998) is a visual artist based in Dresden, Germany.
